Jonathan Wells (28) scored a stun­ning cen­tury for Perth in Premier Cricket on Satur­day to bang down the se­lec­tion door as he bids for a place in WA’s Sh­effield Shield side.

Wells again put Perth in a strong po­si­tion against Mid­land-Guild­ford at Fletcher Park af­ter ham­mer­ing 144, with the for­mer Tas­ma­nian mak­ing it three cen­turies in two weeks.

He hopes to be part of the WA side tak­ing on New South Wales in Syd­ney from Fri­day.

An­gus Web­ster was the main sup­porter with a half­cen­tury as Perth made 7-342, to be in a dom­i­nant po­si­tion go­ing into the sec­ond day from 11.40am on Satur­day.

Un­beaten South Perth will be con­fi­dent of vic­tory af­ter a strong bowl­ing per­for­mance in their fix­ture against Scar­bor­ough at Richard­son Park.

The Sky Blues bowled the Gulls out for 247, with Sam Bir­chall con­tin­u­ing to show his de­vel­op­ment with four scalps.

Young­ster Dar­ius D’Silva was the other im­pres­sive bowler with mul­ti­ple wick­ets.

Hugh Brown is un­beaten on 14 at the end of the day, with the vet­eran al­ready hit­ting a max­i­mum in the process. BEL­MONT was well rep­re­sented at the re­cent Youth Na­tional Wrestling Cham­pi­onships in South Aus­tralia.

WA has seven wrestlers in the com­pe­ti­tion and two from Bel­mont - Mikayla Al­lan and Jack Gra­ham Arho - who won gold and sil­ver medals re­spec­tively.

Mikayla won the 23kg girls cat­e­gory for ages 6-7, mak­ing her a na­tional cham­pion, and Jack won the 26kg boys cat­e­gory for 6-7 years.
