VIC­TO­RIA Park tal­ent Piepa Cleary held her nerve at the death as the Gov­er­nor-Gen­eral’s XI de­feated South Africa by two wick­ets in Sun­day’s an­nual tour match in Syd­ney.

The 20-year-old fast bowler, who will play for the Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League, was se­lected for the rep­re­sen­ta­tive game af­ter her per­for­mances for WA in the Women’s Na­tional Cricket League.

Cleary (1n.o.) was out in the mid­dle along­side the main­stay Beth Mooney (95n.o.) as the Gov­er­nor-Gen­eral’s XI chased down the tar­get of 7-203 with 11 balls to spare.

Ear­lier, Cleary, who plays her club cricket with South Perth, opened the bowl­ing and was eco­nom­i­cal with 0-31 from eight overs.

In the Fe­male AGrade T20 com­pe­ti­tion in Perth on Sun­day, South Perth de­feated Su­bi­aco Floreat by seven wick­ets with 13 balls to spare.

Scorchers spin­ner Katie Hartshorn took 310 from four overs, while Han­nah Siegers made 57 for the Sky Blues.
