Australian of the year from here
MANNING resident Abdullahi Alim says he feels humbled after winning the WA Young Australian of the Year at a ceremony on Sunday.
In a field that included Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo, singer Troye Sivan and wheelchair basketballer Ryan Morich, Mr Alim won for his work in the social innovations sector.
He said he felt very good to win the award and the ceremony was humbling.
“It was a very interesting night, I went with my parents and a friend,” he said.
“All the people who were nominated are passionate and I felt like a win for one was a win for all.
“I used my speech to talk about all the good things that the nominees are involved in and the enthusiasm they have.”
Mr Alim is currently completing a graduate certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship online at Stanford University and he is involved in hackathons, which involves developing a prototype product, service or strategy.
