Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

AN announcement by Transport Minister Bill Marmion that expansion of the much-needed Swan River ferry service is imminent.

Well, hopefully this announcement will be in 2016 and not another Ellenbrook railway line thought bubble.

Given that patronage has doubled this year with a 95 per cent satisfaction rate among ferry passengers, the new services to East Perth, the new football stadium and Point Walter will be popular attractions for local resident, tourists and seniors who wish to have a day on the Swan River.

Hopefully, at Transperth prices.

The biggest challenge will be for the City of South Perth Council.

If they want these services to succeed, they will need to rejig event parking at Mends Street and Coode Street jetties at affordable prices.

An $80 parking fine for a fun day on the river will not be acceptable. BILL GLEESON Former City of South Perth Councillor, South Perth.
