Creative nature of play

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

ST Pius X Catholic Primary School principal Daine Burnett says the opening of a nature playground is the best thing to happen at the school

The school’s Parents and Friends Association fundraised and helped put the playground together, which opened at the start of term four.

Mr Burnett said the idea of the playground was to get the students involved in naturebased activities.

“We are a landlocked school so we needed a creative mindset to implement the playground,” he said.

“The parents and friends of the school fundraised, helped put the playground together and even painted the boat in the playground.

“The parents are outstanding; they donated their time and gave donations to the school.

“They were hands-on during the designs.”

Mr Burnett said the students had enjoyed the playground and it had quickly become a favourite location at the school.

“We’ve had kids in the wooden boat pretend to fish and other students pretending to be the fish,” he said.
