More hours in the day to shop

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

SHOPPERS will have extra time to find those last minute gifts with extended shopping hours over the Christmas period. From Monday December 5, weekday trading at the Belmont Forum will be extended one hour: general retail stores will open at 7am until January 3. Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said the opening up of retail trading in Perth had proven to be very popular with consumers and the retail industry. "The extended hours are similar to last year, except that shopping on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve this year will end at 6pm because they fall on a Saturday, whereas shops were open until 9pm last year because they fell on a Thursday,” he said. Major retailers will also open at 7am on Saturdays and 8am on Sundays and public holidays, and may stay open until 6pm on weekends and public holidays. Extended trading hours have also been approved for Australia Day 2017 with general retail allowed to open from 8am to 6pm. However shops will shut at 6pm Christmas Eve with nearly all of Belmont closed on Christmas Day.
