COST CONFUSION

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

WHO is telling the truth?

For a change, we are not questioning the word of the political elite.

It is private enterprise whose word is questionable – the cost of adapting the terminals for Qantas to introduce long haul, non-stop London-Perth flights and later expanding into Europe. Qantas says the cost would be about $25 million and Perth Airport Corporation seem to think it would be more like $40 million.

Obviously, the Corporation’s executive are only interested in pandering to its shareholders, and don’t give a damn the long term benefits to West Australians.

This is the problem when major infrastructure is handed over to private investment. No wonder people don’t like to see State assets sold off.

ROGER DAVENPORT, Southern River.
