PARK NATIVITY GOING STRONG

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - CHRISTMAS -

THERE will be plenty of Christmas spirit when the Burswood Park Board presents the 22nd annual Carols in the Park this Sunday.

Burswood Park Manager Bruce Hawkins said the event’s enduring success in drawing over 4000 people each year was a testament to the commitment of the large cast of volunteers and professionals who give their time and passion each year to deliver the perfect way for the community to come together to relax and share the Christmas spirit.

Christian singer-songwriter and recording artist Melissa Crothers has played the role of Mary in the show at least 15 times but began participating as a dancer in the Johnny Young Talent Team while still at high school in early 1990s, when it was staged in the City before moving to Burswood.

“Carols in the Park is unique with its mix of the traditional Christmas story, contemporary music, the live animals in the Nativity, plus the stunning location which all makes it such an easy entry for families to be part of it all,” she said.

“What I really love about Carols in the Park is that it is true to the real Christmas story and why we celebrate, and it takes it away from the consumerism and distractions from what the festive season is all about.”

The program commences at 6:00pm with performances by the “Vinyl Revival” band, “Take Note” singers, Johnny Young Talent Team of WA, Canning City Brass Band and Coastal Scottish Pipes and Drums.

At 7.30pm, the re-enacted story of Christmas and carols concert will begin, featuring not only Melissa’s donkey but a menagerie including a camel and Roman centurion on horseback!

A gold coin donation will buy a candle to give that special warm night time Christmas glow, or a songbook to help join in all the traditional carols and contemporary favourites. Proceeds of the sales go to the Kent Street High School Chaplaincy.

There will be directions on site to free parking on Camfield Drive, Burswood.

Free parking is also d462823 available in the multistorey car park, concert goers will need to be parked in this car park before 6:00pm – another reason to be there early.
