Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

AS we enter into the holiday season, it is crucial for Western Australian drivers to be prepared for the extra activity in the community, particularly while on the road.

Tragically, 173 lives, according to data from the Road Safety Commission, have been lost on our roads this year, with hundreds more suffering from serious and often life changing injuries.

Behind the statistics are grieving families, emergency workers and community members who have also been affected by what can sometimes be a split second incident.

It is crucial during this busy time of year that we drive with care, take regular breaks on long trips and put mobile phones and other devices away to reduce distraction.

We all have a part to play in preventing deaths and serious injuries on the road - plan ahead before getting behind the wheel to ensure all Western Australian families make it safely to their destination this festive season. TONY O'HURLEY, Motor Vehicle Accident Practice Group Leader.
