MORE than 100 of WA’s best junior tennis players are taking to the courts in South Perth this week for a major tournament.

The South Perth Lawn Tennis Club’s Junior Open Tournament started yesterday and will finish tomorrow with a number of medals on offer.

Tournament director Lorraine Chyne said the titles included under 10, 12, 14 and 16 for boys and girls in singles and doubles.

“It’s a Tennis Australia and Tennis West-endorsed tournament so the players can win points from competing,” she said.

Victoria Park resident Liam Paull (13) said he took part in the tournament last year and came second in the under 14 singles section.

“It was a lot of fun and it was good to do something during the holidays – the competition was fierce though,” he said.

Como resident Audrey McGrail (12) said she also competed in the tournament for the first time in 2016.

“It was really fun and I got to see all my friends from school,” she said.

“I did quite well in the tournament too. I think I finished third or fourth,” she said.
