Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

I READ your very timely report and exposure of the algae and mosquito build-up in the Salter Point Lagoon in the latest Southern Gazette.

Having walked around the area and in particular the mouth of the lagoon, I too am deeply concerned about the health of the lagoon.

Over the years, since 1997, I have noticed the mouth of the lagoon being choked with stagnant water, algae growth and a gradual increase of mosquitoes. The council is aware and has previously attempted mosquito eradication programs.

The City of South Perth CEO’s response does not deal with the precise concerns of clearing the mouth of the lagoon, as its own consultant had suggested.

If the gradual decline in the health of the lagoon is ignored, the patient will surely die. SUKHWANT SINGH, Salter Point.
