SHOPPING SHAME

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

THE shopping centre (or is it?) is an insult to the people of Belmont.

I wrote a letter in 2015 complaining about the loss of variety retail stores when a government agency (who are known for long leases) moved in – one less store.

Now we have four banks, four less stores and an empty shop set up as a lounge. I ask you! I got a very abrupt reply from an (official) advising there are big changes happening, which is true outside, but certainly not inside.

I also suggested what we should have gifts or fashion, and no more nail, massage or phone shops.

Well guess what? This week I noticed two more shops boarded up; mind you one is already being refurbished into yes, you've got it, a nail shop.

How dare they treat us like this. If we want anything special we have to go to other centres.

I would suggest people don't come here for that special thing.

We Belmont residents expect more.

After all it is a shopping, not a business, centre.

We used to be THE shopping centre of the CBD, or maybe I am naive and it is all about the bottom line minus service.

BRENDA WHITELEY, Kewdale.
