Backpacks for school appeal
THE public has come out in support of online charity GIVIT’s school appeal with about 30 backpacks filled with items to help those less fortunate.
Pencils, erasers and rulers are among the items that will go to mentoring program 12 Buckets, which will distribute them after the public donated the items at Carlisle-based Kidz Paradise on January 24.
GIVIT state manager and Lathlain resident Anna Presser said the charity used social media to put the call-out to the public for seven different items for the 30 backpacks.
“Some people donated online through Officeworks and some people donated it in person,” she said.
“I can’t believe the generosity of the public and it was great that Kidz Paradise put their hand up to be the dropoff point.
“There are some young children who turn up to school at the start of the year without anything, so it’s wonderful that Givit can help them by being the matchmaking between the public and those in need,” she said.
Givit is a website that enables charities to list what their clients need and then the public is able to donate directly. Visit www.givit.org.au to see items charities need.
