PFAS are known as per- and polyflu­o­roalkyl sub­stances, PFOA and PFOS.

Peo­ple with pri­vate bores near ar­eas where con­tam­i­na­tion has been found are urged to test their wa­ter for lev­els of PFAS

PFAS was con­tained in 3M Bright­wa­ter fire­fight­ing foam used at Perth Air­port un­til 2003, and in smaller amounts in a re­place­ment foam used un­til 2010. ■Fire­fight­ing foam con­tain­ing PFAS has been used at eight WA air­ports and 12 Depart­ment of De­fence sites across the na­tion.

The WA En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion Au­thor­ity was ad­vised of the po­ten­tial for toxic chem­i­cal con­tam­i­na­tion at Perth Air­port, in­clud­ing sur­round­ing ar­eas, in July 2010.
