Big push for Perth
TOURISM WA and Qantas have agreed to contribute $2.85 million to a marketing campaign promoting Perth as a hub for airline travellers.
Non-stop flights between Perth and London have kicked off the promotion, with Perth seen as a stop-over point for Australian and international travellers.
Premier and Tourism Minister Colin Barnett said his government’s goal was to increase tourism’s contribution to the economy from $9.6 billion in 2016 to $12 billion by 2020.
“We have all seen what becoming an airline hub has done for cities like Singapore and Dubai,” Mr Barnett said. “The same can happen in Perth.”
Tourism WA and Qantas have committed the funding from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
The funding is on top of the $7.2 million contribution over three years, split between Qantas and Tourism WA.
