Seeing stars over stamps
WHETHER it is Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley, Norah Jackson just loves collecting stamps of famous movie stars and singers.
The secretary and one of the founders of the Victoria Park Stamp Club is among the avid collectors at the club who meet regularly to talk about stamps or pass on doubles.
Mrs Jackson said she began collecting stamps when she was 12 but stopped at 15 when “boys came on to the scene”.
“It wasn’t until I married and children that I began collecting again,” she said.
“I remember Ampol garages used to give stamps away with every purchase of fuel, so I began my collecting again in 1964.
“Among my favourites are my Michael Jackson stamps, as well as my Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and many more.”
Fellow club member and Cloverdale resident Ally Halliday said she collected stamps from several countries.
“I was obsessed by German stamps but now I’m collecting New Zealand stamps,” she said.
“I’ve got about 60 albums from Germany, USA, New Zealand, Britain and the Czech Republic.”
Mrs Jackson said the club was always looking for more members.
The club meets at the Star Street Uniting Church in Carlisle on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm.
