A MAN who al­legedly tried to ran­som a chi­huahua back to its owner af­ter steal­ing a car with the dog in­side has been re­manded in cus­tody un­til Fe­bru­ary 24. The 37-year-old man of no fixed ad­dress al­legedly stole a Ford Fo­cus hatch­back, with the dog in­side, from Lord Street in Mt Law­ley on Satur­day, Jan­uary 7. Kens­ing­ton De­tec­tives al­lege the man then tried to de­mand a sum of money from the owner of the hatch­back for the re­turn of the dog. Both the car and dog were re­cov­ered. Po­lice al­lege the man also stole a car in East Vic­to­ria Park on Jan­uary 7 and bur­gled a busi­ness in Vic­to­ria Park on the same day. The man was charged with de­mand­ing prop­erty by writ­ten threats, bur­glary and com­mit, two counts of steal­ing and two counts of no author­ity to drive. He ap­peared in the North­bridge Mag­is­trates Court on Fe­bru­ary 12.
