PERTH Detectives have charged a 49-year-old man of Northbridge over a serious assault in Perth on February 11. Around 9.35pm, the victim, a 59-year-old Waterford man, was walking along the Wellington Street pedestrian overpass when he was confronted by the 49-year-old man, who was unknown to him. The man then allegedly assaulted the victim by striking him to the head and face, causing him to lose consciousness. The man then fled the area, but was apprehended by police a short time later. The victim was taken to Royal Perth Hospital. The man has been charged with unlawfully acting with the intent to harm and appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court on February 12. He was remanded in custody to appear again on March 7.
