Beach art a big hit

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

ART and the beach combine with more than 80 homegrown WA artists taking part in Sculpture at Bathers.

Scores of large sculptures are scattered on the beach, courtyard, boardwalks, paths and limestone cliffs, while smaller pieces are on display inside Kidogo Arthouse.

Belmont artist Jon Tarry created Comet Landing, a 150cm by 150cm stainless steel and bronze sculpture, for the exhibition.

He shaped the piece using ancient lost wax bronze casting and industrial welding, a surface of mirrored stainless steel reflecting the sky above.

Placed on the sand, it represents something ancient, existing both at the beginning of the universe yet also in the moment it is seen by the viewer.

Sculpture at Bathers is at Bathers Beach until March 12.
