YOUTH COMING THROUGH
SEASON 2017 for the Perth Football Club (PFC) officially got underway last Saturday night when members and sponsors joined the players and coaches in launching what promises to be an exciting year in a very competitive WAFL competition.
One of the highlights of the evening was the announcement of 1985 and 1986 WAFL leading goalkicker Mick ‘Stinger’ Rea as the Club Legend for 2017.
Mick played 121 games between 1981 and 1988 and impressively topped PFC’s goal kicking six times while playing at full-forward.
Our 2017 club captain Clint Jones was also officially announced, along with other members of the leadership group, with the remainder of the 2017 playing group also presented to those in attendance.
This year’s senior squad has a lot of new faces, but unlike past years where most have been secured through an active recruiting campaign, 16 new faces come via our Colts, with many having been involved with the PFC development program.
This Saturday is WAFL round 1, with four points up for grabs, our first assignment being a trip to Bassendean to take on traditional rivals Swan Districts.
Round 2 we head to Leederville oval to tackle Subiaco, before making our first home appearance on the new oval at Lathlain Park.
Hopefully we see as many Demon supporters as possible for rounds 1 and 2, but a must is to lock April 1 into calendars to ensure our first game back at Lathlain against Claremont is a day to be remembered.
Don’t miss out. See you at the footy. Perth Demons chief executive officer Marty Atkins.
Clint Jones will lead the Demons this year as club captain.
