Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - STREET WATCH -

POLICE are targeting graffiti offenders and are calling for public support in a crackdown on unlawful damage. Operation Quadrangle III started on February 20 with Police Transport Unit and local police focussing on graffiti offenders.

Research shows graffiti is a gateway crime, meaning many graffiti offenders escalate to commit more serious crimes without intervention. Graffiti has a significant impact on the community. Cleanup costs are estimated to exceed $25 million each year, and in addition graffiti increases perceptions of crime and reduces community pride.

Quadrangle includes both enforcement and engagement activities aimed at putting offenders before the courts and raising awareness about graffiti. It is vitally important that the public supports our efforts to tackle this crime. We need the public to provide us with information about offences.
