THE South East Metropolitan Junior Cricket under-13 grand final took place at Higgins Park on March 18 between two South Perth teams, Purple and Red.

South Perth Purple has been coached by Nathan Tuckey and his team had an outstanding season, going through to the grand final undefeated.

“I am so very proud of my boys and had said to each young man before the game, you have all succeeded in personal bests and whatever the result you are winners in my eyes,” he said.

“For them to go the whole way through the season undefeated and win the grand final is truly a remarkable achievement.”

After a morning of wet weather, the game commenced with South Perth Purple winning the toss and opting to bowl; it appeared to be a good decision.

South Perth Purple kept the fielding tight with some great performances from across the team and kept Red to 83 after 25 overs.

Some late rallying from the Red batsmen saw the team score at nine runs an over for the last five overs to reach a very competitive 128 after their 30 overs.

Purple got off to a fast start, with Elijah Edmonds scoring at a run a ball, and then some power batting from Bradley Tuckey in the middle (21 n.o. off 16) had Purple at 0-90 at the halfway mark, with the boys hit the winning runs in the 25th over.
