Wesley alumnus 100th

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

WESLEY College’s oldest living alumnus had a special birthday surprise at his former school.

Eric Knight celebrated his 100th birthday with a surprise celebration at the junior school assembly on April 7.

Mr Knight’s family has had four generations attend the school, including his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

During the assembly, students sang Mr Knight Happy Birthday and then asked Mr Knight about his experience of attending the school in the 1930s.

Attendees at the assembly were shown a cricket bat, hat and school photos from the era.

Mr Knight said the celebrations were a big surprise and he had no idea it was going to happen.

“It was absolutely wonderful to be surrounded by my family during the celebrations,” he said.

“I haven’t really thought about turning 100, I just kept breathing and it came.”

Mr Knight said with his family history tied to Wesley College, the school meant a lot to him.

“I had a very happy d467578 time here. I enjoyed being a boarder and I was happy to pass on the experience to my children.

“It was an overwhelming experience to come here today,” he said.
