Rugby juniors play for pride
YOUNG rugby league enthusiasts from five southern suburbs clubs combined to take on the best of the state in last week’s inaugural Junior State League Championships.
Under 12 and 15 players from the Fremantle Roosters, Willagee Bears, South Perth Lions, Kwinana Wolves and Rockingham Sharks combined to form the Southern Pride in the round robin competition held at Beaconsfield’s Ken Allen Field.
Both Southern Pride teams went through the competition undefeated, hailed the inaugural champions.
They took on the best from WA’s north-west, north and south-west, as well as a special School Sports WA invi- tational team.
It was the first junior rugby league event of this size in WA, with 10 teams, 200 players and 50 support staff converging for 20 games across four days.
