Hooker is Dockers’ female club champ
HARDNOSED Fremantle Dockers midfielder Dana Hooker has been crowned the club’s inaugural female club champion.
The 26-year-old polled 73 points from her seven games, beating captain Kara Donnellan by just one point after pipping her at the post in the last game.
Donnellan had what seemed like an unbeatable nine-point lead going into the final game, which she missed through injury, but Hooker managed to poll 10 points after amassing 21 disposals and being named among the best on field.
Lara Filocamo finished third with 56 points.
Fremantle coach Michelle Cowan credited Hooker’s effort on the field for her win.
“It was one of the most consistent seasons from any player involved in AFLW,” she said.
“She was a professional with her preparation, making sure she got the best out of every training session and every game. What I love the most about her winning this award is that she has grabbed her opportunity with both hands and made the most out of it. She’s been an outstanding leader for our club as a part of our leadership group, too.”
Donnellan would end up going home with an award, taking out the Players’ Award while Amy Lavell won Best Clubwoman.
