SIGNS OF CHANGE ON HIGHWAY

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - OPINION -

BARELY noticeable on page 3 of the City of South Perth's Peninsula newsletter for May 2017, under the heading “Works in your neighbourhood”, is a cryptic but nevertheless momentous announcement: Thelma Street Closure – at Canning Highway. What's so momentous? It will be, if my recollections are accurate, the first change in Canning Highway road layout in the City of South Perth for at least 15 years (yes, 15 years, but I won't mind if evidence is presented to prove me wrong).

We must congratulate the City of South Perth for undertaking an actual road layout engineering activity on Canning Highway, after very many years of inactivity by Main Roads, the State Government and the City of South Perth.

So, well done, City of South Perth.

Maybe this small start will catalyse real action on the hype in https://southperth.wa.gov.au/ourfuture/projects-and-places/canning-highway, and more open reporting on what other steps, if any, that the City is taking to promote urban renewal along Canning Highway. ROGER ATKINSON, Como.
