Wa­ter use re­warded

THE Town of Vic­to­ria Park was recog­nised for be­ing one of WA’s top sav­ing coun­cils af­ter it re­ceived two awards at the Wa­ter Cor­po­ra­tion’s Water­wise Busi­ness Recog­ni­tion break­fast.

The coun­cil re­ceived the Newly Water­wise Coun­cil award for pro­mot­ing a bet­ter un­der­stand­ing of wa­ter use in op­er­a­tions and the com­mu­nity.

It also re­ceived Gold Water­wise Coun­cil sta­tus for demon­strat­ing in­no­va­tion and best prac­tice tech­niques in sus­tain­able wa­ter man­age­ment of its fa­cil­i­ties and pub­lic open space.

The Water­wise Coun­cil Pro­gram is run through a joint part­ner­ship be­tween the Wa­ter Cor­po­ra­tion and the Depart­ment of Wa­ter.

It aims to build a co-op­er­a­tive work­ing re­la­tion­ship with lo­cal gov­ern­ments to im­prove wa­ter use ef­fi­ciency in coun­cil fa­cil­i­ties, pub­lic open space and the com­mu­nity.

In 2015, the Town formed a cross-func­tional wa­ter team and worked in part­ner­ship with the Eastern Metropoli­tan Re­gional Coun­cil’s wa­ter qual­ity and con­ser­va­tion pro­gram to de­velop a wa­ter ac­tion plan.

It aims to as­sess cur­rent wa­ter use, iden­tify in­ef­fi­cien­cies and po­ten­tial sav­ings, set goals and bench­marks to im­prove wa­ter use, and re­port on wa­ter ef­fi­ciency ac­tions.
