Water use rewarded
THE Town of Victoria Park was recognised for being one of WA’s top saving councils after it received two awards at the Water Corporation’s Waterwise Business Recognition breakfast.
The council received the Newly Waterwise Council award for promoting a better understanding of water use in operations and the community.
It also received Gold Waterwise Council status for demonstrating innovation and best practice techniques in sustainable water management of its facilities and public open space.
The Waterwise Council Program is run through a joint partnership between the Water Corporation and the Department of Water.
It aims to build a co-operative working relationship with local governments to improve water use efficiency in council facilities, public open space and the community.
In 2015, the Town formed a cross-functional water team and worked in partnership with the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council’s water quality and conservation program to develop a water action plan.
It aims to assess current water use, identify inefficiencies and potential savings, set goals and benchmarks to improve water use, and report on water efficiency actions.
