WASTE STATISTICS

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

Australia's production of waste is growing twice as fast as its population.

Australia is the fifth most wasteful country in the world, generating 52 megatonnes a year. The US is number one.

The amount of waste placed in landfill each year is enough to cover the state of Victoria.

Plastic is the most common form of waste in landfill.

Catherine Baudains encourages householders to carry out a bin audit as a first step to reducing their waste.
