Dangerous tree felled

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

A COMO resident is pleased that a tree hovering dangerously over a cycling path near the Como Jetty has been removed.

The tree was splitting at its trunk, with a large branch poised in a dangerous position, so Eric Brooke contacted the City of South Perth on May 5 to inform them.

He received a letter on May 15 that said the tree removal “should be carried out within the next two weeks, weather permitting” but no action had been taken when he contacted the Southern Gazette on May 29.

After questions were put to the council, the tree was re- moved on Thursday.

“I’m happy that the tree has been removed; they’ve cut it right down to ground level and what remains is safe,” he said.

“I think the council should lift its game; the tree had been marked ages ago, so I feel annoyed it took this long.”

Mr Brooke said he believed the tree could have killed or injured a cyclist or pedestrian.

“I thought that I should alert them, as we are getting into winter and there will be storms,” he said.
