App alerts medical help before ambulance
SMARTPHONES could save lives with a new app for first responders.
St John Ambulance Western Australia is using the free St John First Responder app to enlist qualified first aiders who can respond to someone in distress before the ambulance arrives.
The app is designed to alert registered users, such as offduty paramedics, doctors, nurses and trained members of the public to incidents occurring within 500m of them.
These incidents include events such as cardiac arrest, burns and allergic reactions.
The app also lists the location of registered defibrillators nearby.
