Time to re-think waste
YOUNG people are being called on to re-invent waste as part of the Young Re-inventor of the Year competition, which is being run by the City of South Perth and Switch Your Thinking. Submissions are invited from early years learning centres, primary schools, high schools, community groups and individuals and there is a $3000 prize pool on offer. “We encourage young people in the City of South Perth to take up the challenge and look at different ways to reuse, re-purpose and re-invent waste,” Mayor Sue Doherty said. “Initiatives like these help to increase awareness about reducing waste and inspire creative ways to recycle.” Last year the winning re-inventors took home rainwater tanks, sustainability books, sustainable fashion items, worm farms and compost bins to continue their waste reducing behaviour. Submissions close on October 23. More details at switchyourthinking.com.
