Piano Jasmine’s forte
JASMINE Farghaly might be young but her talent tinkling the piano keys has seen her travel the world.
The Year 9 Penrhos College student (14) is heading to Austria on July 11 to perform as part of the International Music Competition Salzburg Competition.
As part of her application, Jasmine performed Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 by Franz Liszt, which uploaded as a private video on Youtube and she was then selected to perform at the prestigious event.
“I’m excited about going to Salzburg because it’s where the Sound of Music was filmed,” she said.
“My dream place to perform is Venice though.
Jasmine previously performed as part of the Paris Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition and was able to play with the Paris National Opera in 2015 at Opera Bastille.
She was awarded by the jury and organisational committee with the Young Star Grand Prize Virtuoso Special Prize.
“I started playing the piano at seven, which is a bit older than when some people take it up,” she said.
“I usually practise each day, it was exam week last week so it was hard to fit it in but I did lots of practise on the weekend.
“I’ve got a great piano teacher (Yoon Sen Lee) and my mum is quite musical.
“I usually play Chopin but I can get a bit sick of it.
“Liszt’s work is a bit faster and louder,” she said.
