Just after 10pm on June 6, South East Metropolitan Response officers spotted a stolen Holden Commodore utility travelling west along Hardey Road in Ascot. The vehicle had been stolen from a home in Glendalough sometime between June 5 and 6. The police were stopped at a red traffic light at the intersection of Hardey Road and Great Eastern Highway when, prior to the lights changing, it is alleged the driver of the Commodore performed a U-turn and attempted to evade police. The Commodore travelled east along Hardey Road until losing control attempting to overtake a Transperth bus near the intersection of Hardey Road and Sydenham Street, Belmont. The driver of the stolen vehicle allegedly attempted to run away but was apprehended by police. The 33-year-old man from Bedford received broken bones and facial lacerations as a result of the crash and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital. No one else was injured in the crash.
