Just af­ter 10pm on June 6, South East Metropoli­tan Re­sponse of­fi­cers spot­ted a stolen Holden Com­modore util­ity trav­el­ling west along Hardey Road in As­cot. The ve­hi­cle had been stolen from a home in Glen­dalough some­time be­tween June 5 and 6. The po­lice were stopped at a red traf­fic light at the in­ter­sec­tion of Hardey Road and Great Eastern High­way when, prior to the lights chang­ing, it is al­leged the driver of the Com­modore per­formed a U-turn and at­tempted to evade po­lice. The Com­modore trav­elled east along Hardey Road un­til los­ing con­trol at­tempt­ing to over­take a Transperth bus near the in­ter­sec­tion of Hardey Road and Sy­den­ham Street, Bel­mont. The driver of the stolen ve­hi­cle al­legedly at­tempted to run away but was ap­pre­hended by po­lice. The 33-year-old man from Bed­ford re­ceived bro­ken bones and fa­cial lac­er­a­tions as a re­sult of the crash and was taken to Royal Perth Hospi­tal. No one else was in­jured in the crash.
