Fam­ily fun day in park

REDCLIFFE Park will be buzzing with art, danc­ing, food and cel­e­bra­tions on July 4 for Jacaranda Com­mu­nity Cen­tre’s Naidoc Fam­ily Day.

Abo­rig­i­nal Fam­ily Sup­port and School In­clu­sion Pro­gram of­fi­cer Ve­nis Col­lard said every­one was in­vited to take part in the event, which Jacaranda had been run­ning for sev­eral years.

“It gives lo­cal peo­ple the op­por­tu­nity to get in­volved per­son­ally in cel­e­brat­ing Naidoc Week. Every­one can have a share; it’s for non-Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple to get in­volved too,” Mr Col­lard said.

The 2017 Naidoc Week theme, Our Lan­guages Mat­ter, em­pha­sises and cel­e­brates the unique and es­sen­tial role that indige­nous lan­guages play in cul­tural iden­tity.

The cel­e­bra­tions will be hosted by MC Reno James, with a cul­tural dis­play and Dream­ing sto­ries, stalls, flag rais­ing, art dis­play, tra­di­tional danc­ing and didgeri­doo per­for­mances, Abo­rig­i­nal foods and a sausage siz­zle, face paint­ing, a gym bus and more.

All are in­vited to come along and cel­e­brate from 11am to 3pm at Redcliffe Park.
