$9m for new complex
A MULTI-MILLION dollar funding boost is on its way to the new Belmont Community Centre and Library.
Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison and Regional Development Minister Fiona Nash visited Belmont last Thursday to announce the $9.67 million investment.
The complex will include a new district library, museum, senior citizens centre, offices for not-for-profit organisations, a creche and a cafe.
Swan MHR Steve Irons said the not-for-profit offices would help organisations deliver much-needed services locally.
“Offering community service providers low rent accommodation options is another way we are assisting those in need,” he said.
“The main benefits are expected to include a reduction in the level of disadvantage being experienced by some local residents in the areas of education and unemployment.”
Mr Morrison said the notfor-profit offices were a particularly smart idea to assist locals, along with the immediate construction jobs around the building project.
“I really like the idea of the hotdesking for not-for profit organisations, to pool that sort of resource for organisations like that and connect them to where people are,” he said.
“When you get people who are involved in community services together, the more they bump in to each other and interact with each other... there’s a lot of synergy in that.”
