Perth cops Naidoc Round an­ni­hi­la­tion

SU­BI­ACO de­liv­ered a dom­i­nant per­for­mance from start to fin­ish to beat Perth by 82 points in the WAFL Naidoc Round on Satur­day at Leed­erville Oval for a 13th con­sec­u­tive vic­tory.

Perth ac­tu­ally started brightly and it was only fit­ting that on Naidoc Round, the first goal of the game was from indigenous small for­ward Cody Ninyette.

It took more than 10 min­utes for Su­bi­aco to get its open­ing goal of the game with that com­ing courtesy of Ben Sokol.

But by quar­ter-time, Justin Joyce, James Gar­cia and Sokol again had all kicked truly to see the Lions lead by 24 points on the back of 10 scor­ing shots to one.

Debu­tant Ryan Ver­meer­sch then open the goal scor­ing in the sec­ond term for the Lions be­fore Perth got a stead­ier from emerg­ing big man Blake John­son.

Ver­meer­sch added a sec­ond be­fore cap­tain Kyal Hors­ley kicked truly and Sokol added his third.

A goal each just be­fore half­time meant that Su­bi­aco was right on top by 51 points on the back of 24 first half scor­ing shots to three. Two goals in three min­utes to Liam Ryan and then an­other to Lach­lan De­lahunty in the open­ing four min­utes of the third term sud­denly saw the lead blow out to 69 points as the tone was set for the rest of the sec­ond half.

Perth did con­tinue to fight and kicked two third quar­ter goals and four in the last, but Su­bi­aco fin­ished with five in the third term and six in the last to run out 82-point vic­tors.
