Dysfunction over manual

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

THERE was heated debate at last week’s Belmont Council meeting over their policy manual.

Councillors went back and forth over policy BEXB40, regarding attendance by dignitaries at various civic functions.

After council discussion on August 8, the schedule was amended to invite the Member for Belmont to volunteer recognition events and the Pioneers Function.

Cr Wolff moved an alternative motion to remove this invitation, with a tussle ensuing over when the motion was received.

Cr Gardner said it seemed odd to go to the effort of removing the Member from the manual.

Cr Hitt said unsung heroes needed more recognition, while Cr Ryan said no dignitaries were needed at such events.

Four voted for the alternative motion and five against, with the motion lost and Member for Belmont’s invitation standing.

A similar debate followed on the Pioneers Function, with queries about surveying the Pioneers on the matter.
