SYSTEM UNDER PRESSURE
George Jones Centre's Amanda Paton said the Centre was well over capacity, with a waitlist for psychological services for families facing domestic violence stretching out to six months at last count. “We have to hold a lot of families because there's nowhere to refer them to,” she said. The Centre is currently seeing more than 100 clients, with a big caseload on family advocates. The multi-agency investigation and support team (MIST), a join response between police, child protection and Parkerville, which investigates cases of child sexual abuse, is holding between four and 10 forensic interviews every week, and has seen more than 530 cases in 18 months.
