Jasmine looks into crystals
FORGET traditional textures – the outfit Jasmine O’Brien created for her role at this year’s Telstra Perth Fashion Festival involved growing crystals in a stovetop pot.
The Kensington resident was among the fashion design students honoured at the Future Runway and Next Generation held at Fashion Paramount Optus Stadium on Wednesday.
Ms O’Brien won the wearable technology category for her design called Tetraborate, made from sodium tetraborate crystals and cured by hand.
“During the process my crystals grew and I let nature guide my process in the intricate shapes, formations and textures that evolved,” the South Metropolitan Tafe student said.
The wearable technology category required students to be innovative and inspirational in their design, and look beyond day-to-day fabrications for their designs.
