Hol­i­day fun nearer to na­ture

KIDS of all ages can dis­cover the world of win­ter wet­land dwellers at the Can­ning River Eco Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre these school hol­i­days.

The pro­gram, called Nearer to Na­ture, run by the Depart­ment of Parks and Wildlife, boasts a host of ac­tiv­i­ties for chil­dren of all ages.

Frog for­age, on Satur­day July 11, is for ages six and over, and takes par­tic­i­pants on an evening hunt for some com­mon frogs, walk­ing through some com­mon frog habi­tats as well as iden­ti­fy­ing frog calls.

Another pop­u­lar ac­tiv­ity, Deadly and Dan­ger­ous, is suit­able for ages seven to 12, and will be held on Thurs­day July 9, where chil­dren will get the chance to learn about some dan­ger­ous species.

Pro­gram co-or­di­na­tor Jill Fran­cis said a cute and fun ac­tiv­ity for younger chil­dren, aged four to seven, called Snug­glegum and Cud­dlenut, is sure to de­light.

The ac­tiv­ity takes kids into the bush to col­lect spe­cial nuts, twigs and leaves to turn into craft, and will take place on Tues­day July 14.
