Have say on lighting at sports courts

Southern Gazette (Victoria Park) - - Near You -

THE Town of Victoria Park will commence a consultation process to determine if floodlighting is needed at the multi-purpose sports courts on McCallum Park.

In April, users of the courts started to lobby the Town of Victoria Park for lighting.

Carl Coady, of Victoria Park, said it got dark by 5.30pm in winter, which meant there was not much time to play after work or school.

“Even if we could play until 7pm in the winter, that would give us all a couple of hours to let off some steam.

“You’ve got to have that outlet. I have a pretty serious job and it’s good to go down there and enjoy some social basketball,” he said.

At its June council meeting, the Town agreed to put aside $150,000 for the lights if the community indicated during the consultation process that it wanted lighting.
