Recording discontent

Southern Gazette (Victoria Park) - - News -

OUTGOING Belmont councillors spoke up last week about their concern over meetings not being recorded.

A number of councillors made reference to the matter in their final speeches, with meetings not recorded electronically for the general public to access.

Councillor Paul Hitt was the first to address the issue in his leaving speech, with the councillor not standing for re-election.

The West ward councillor suggested some councillors do not want to be held responsible for what they said in meetings, and said he had now seen both sides of the coin as a ratepayer group president and elected official.

Councillor Hitt said he would be attending meetings again after the election, but in the public gallery, where he is not bound by standing orders.
