NEW ROLE ECHOES RYAN’S CHILDHOOD
COMO resident Ryan Dawson will star in an exciting Australian musical that will have its WA premiere at The Blue Room Theatre during October.
Once We Lived Here centres around Amy, who runs her family’s sheep station Emoh Ruo in rural Australia.
She has held on to the property through drought, bushfire and falling wool prices, determined not to let it slip out of the family grasp.
Over a scorching long weekend, the family gather, and Amy has to face up to the myths and lies the place has been built on.
In the opening song, the characters on stage remind the audience of the old adage that ‘all roads lead to home’, and for Dawson, that message rings true, as this show is his debut performance since returning to Perth from his time overseas.
Dawson studied at the WA Academy of Performing Arts, then Lasalle in Singapore, before an extended stint performing in London’s West End in We Will Rock You.
Dawson said home was where his family was, so getting back to Perth and doing what he loved was awesome.
“After We Will Rock You, it’s exciting to be doing something that echoes my childhood of growing up on a farm in the South-West and reflects our way of life in Australia,” he said.
Written by the critically acclaimed team of Dean Bryant and Mathew Frank, this full-length musical is an authentically Australian story, with a uniquely Australian sound.
Once We Lived Here will showcase a stellar cast of home-grown talent. Dawson will be joined by WAAPA musical theatre graduates Taryn Ryan, Sharon Kiely, Josh Firman and Megan Kozak.
The musical will run at The Blue Room Theatre from October 17 to November 4.
