A FREE program to help children and their families manage their weight is coming to several locations across Perth.

The Better Health Program is a free healthy lifestyle program for seven to 13-year-olds who are above a healthy weight.

The Health Department-funded program will be delivered from Term 4 at seven leisure centre facilities, including in Swan, Canning, Joondalup, Cockburn, Rockingham, Stirling and Victoria Park.

Participants will do two-hour sessions once a week for 10 weeks, receiving support for eating and exercise habits.

“The program is a fun, friendly and family-focused,” WA project manager Chris Vavakis said.

“It encourages children to give new things a go and shows parents how they can be supportive and involve the whole family in making healthier choices and following an active lifestyle.

“Children can become healthier and fitter while their self-esteem and confidence increase.”
