Perth poor all round

Southern Gazette (Victoria Park) - - Sport -

ROUND one of the WACA Premier Cricket season got off to a poor start for Perth at Lilac Hill.

Rain delayed the start of play and Perth were asked to bat by hosts Midland-Guildford with each team restricted to 38 overs.

When Dain Moreton (52) and Jacob Snadden (34) were at the crease, Perth were positioned to post a challenging total.

But a flurry of wickets at the back end saw Perth finish short with 159.

Uncharacteristically, Perth then put in a generally poor performance in the field.

Although they did not put catches down, numerous misfields gifted the opposition precious runs.

Liam Guthrie and Jake Van Galen otherwise bowled well, but a Sundries tally of 22 which included free hits (from no balls) proved costly.

Midland-Guildford won with three overs to spare to record just their second win over the Demons in the past nine encounters.
