Push for women’s team
PERTH Cricket Club is once again running a ladies social competition but this time is hoping to form a female team.
The Sunset Scorchers social ladies cricket competition runs during February and March at Fletcher Park, Carlisle.
Competition co-ordinator Jake Snadden said the competition was set up four years ago so partners and mums could have fun but had become an avenue to identify talented women.
“There has been a real mix of
women taking part, from people associated with the club to athletes from other sports like hockey, football and softball,” he said.
“It wasn’t our first goal to form a women’s team but we’ve been able to identify some talent and some of the women would like to play more so we have plans to put a B-Grade side together.”
Snadden said they would need up to 15 players but was encouraged by the response.
“We’ve already had about six emails from women who want to play in a larger competition,” he said.
“You can feel the momentum in women’s sport; the tide is turning.”
