HE is the wrestler tipped for big things by Greco-Roman wrestling coach Jadranko ‘Adrian’ Tesanovic.

East Victoria Park resident Taaniel Piiskoppel (23) moved from Estonia to Perth in October 2017, after an initial stint in WA during 2015 and 2016, in time to claim two gold medals at the WA State Championships in November.

His preparation now turns to the National Wrestling Championship, where Tesanovic believes Piiskoppel will strike gold again.

Tesanovic said Piiskoppel was a very “classy” wrestler able to teach his fellow wrestlers at MMA 24/7 in Belmont.

“Estonia is known as a place that produces a lot of Olympic wrestlers,” he said.

“Taaniel has competed in three European to compete.”

Piiskoppel said he had started wrestling when he was six years old at the request of his father.

“Wrestling is quite a popular sport and when I was young my father took me to the

mat and asked the coach to turn me into a wrestler,” he said.

“I felt confident going into the WA State Championships but the final matches were very intense but I’m happy I won both.”
