On your marks for sports boost
USAIN Bolt, the fastest man on Earth, has a message for Aussie kids.
He wants them to believe “anything is possible” and make sure they have lots of fun trying out different sports to find out what they are good at.
The Jamaican sprinter – who set the world 100m record at 9.58s in 2009 – has joined Australia’s world champion hurdler Sally Pearson to support the Coles Sports For Schools program this month.
As part of the program, schools can register for a chance to share in millions of dollars’ worth of sports gear.
The Olympic great said sport should start off being something children enjoyed with friends as “that way it’s fun”.
“And if at first you don’t succeed, try again,” he said. “Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
More than 800 types of sports gear are up for grabs, as part of the Sports For Schools program.
The program has supplied more than $20 million worth of sports gear to more than 7500 schools across Australia since 2010.
For every $10 spent at Coles supermarkets from February 7, customers will receive one Sports For Schools voucher, which can be placed in collection bins at Coles stores as well as at registered schools. Once the vouchers are tallied by participating schools at the end of the program, they will be able to order from the range of premium sporting equipment.
