Congratulations to the Berrigan Ladies Golf Pennant 2016 Team for winning the Zone 1 Competition in the Riverina Ladies Golf Pennant Competition.

The Berrigan Golf Pennant Team over the 5-week period consisted of Janice Graham (captain), Maree Ryan, Del Schweicker, Sandy Moar, Tracy Dunn and Val Chisholm. The zone consisted of Berrigan, Finley (2 teams), Deniliquin (2 teams) and Jerilderie.

It was a closely contested competition, and all teams played in the spirit of the game. Well done ladies on an outstanding effort.

The semi final matches between the four finalists were held at Leeton on June 20 with the weather conditions being extremely wet, cold and windy.

These conditions tested the ladies, however they all played exceptionally well and were in good spirits, with Del Schweicker walking the course for the first time in three years. They are a credit to themselves and their respective clubs.

The semi final teams were Berrigan v Commercial Albury and Wagga Wagga Country Club v Coleambally.

Unfortunately the Berrigan ladies just missed out on the finals with WW Country Club and Commercial Albury playing earlier this month at Berrigan Golf Course.

Final result went to a well deserved and hard fought victory to Wagga. Congratulations to all players.

Berrigan’s nine-hole comp winner on Friday was Neil Graham (50-37.5), runner-up was Barry Browne (52-41), ball winner was Gail Browne (48-42.5), and putting was won by Neil Graham with 16 putts.

Regardless of this all teams were fired up and played sensationally at the weekend.

The Under 14s were also given the opportunity to play Cobram Roar’s U-13s in a friendly match on Sunday.

Over the two week break a number of parents were hard at work being put through their paces on a coaching course ran by Atila Kerestes, the FFV Zone development officer.

Katy Wallis, Charlie White, Nathan Everingham, Sara Macleod, Peter Maraldo, Dani Walkington and Mick Wane were the Finley locals involved on the day.

It was another tough day at the office for the undermanned Demons.

It was great to see some older players come out of retirement and the thirds players also need to be congratulated for regularly backing up for a second game to help out the club.

Jerilderie had no answers to Berrigan’s run and forward pressure on the day, with the Saints forward line too strong.

With the backline under so much pressure, Troy Mauger and Tom Murphy were standouts for the Demons as was Ben Nash, who is always among Jerilderie’s best.

Best: T Murphy, T Mauger, B Nash. Goal: J Williams.

U17s: Jerilderie 2.2 (14) lost to Berrigan 13.12 (90).

It was a slow first quarter with Berrigan getting off to a good start, keeping the Dees to just one goal.

Jade Buckley turned it on in the second quarter, bringing the Demons back to life and evening up the contest.

After the main break Berrigan still had control of the game against an undermanned Jerilderie.

It was great battling by the boys, especially the fourths who came up to help the side out.

With a different approach in the last quarter adopted by the coaching staff, the contest for the ball was much better, but the

nil.

The young Demons were the only shining light for Jerilderie on Saturday when they came up against the Saints in the first match of the day.

From the first bounce, Jerilderie forced the ball forward with Tyson Conn and Ben Browning scoring with ease.

Ben Neessen was good out of the centre and Glenn DiLullo was strong at centre half back again.

After the main break, Jerilderie put their foot down, scoring eight goals for the term.

Oliver Knight had a great game running the ball forward and Zander Nash played well out of the centre.

Berrigan, to their credit, never gave up and in the last quarter put great pressure on the Demons.

The Demons eventually ran out easy 143 points victors with Tyson Conn finishing the day with 12 goals.
