Two targeted

Finley businesses victims of thieves

- ~ Sophie Burge

Two Finley businesses were broken into and had goods stolen last Wednesday night.

Cash, medical supplies and other equipment were taken from Finley Early Learning Centre in Murray St and Haynes Butchery in Pinnuck St.

Learning centre director Heidi McGrath said the rear door was forced open to gain entry, with two of the rooms left a mess.

She said the all first-aid packs, medicine tins and cupboards were ransacked.

Two cameras were stolen, as well as snack foods and half a slab of bottled water.

‘‘We are extremely disappointed that it’s happened in this little town,’’ Ms McGrath said.

The butchery break-in is believed to have occurred between 3am and 4am, also through a forced rear door.

Owner Ash Haynes said petty cash was stolen and there was significant damage to the cash register.

The person or persons responsible left through the front door, leaving it wide open.

‘‘One week you have a story on the front page of the SOUTHERN RIVERINA NEWS about natural disasters like floods and you’re reading about everyone helping and doing what we can, and the next week there are break-ins like this,’’ Mr Haynes said.

‘‘It just highlights there are elements in our society who will take advantage of things.’’

Mr Haynes said it is unfortunate that small communities like Finley have to consider sophisticated security equipment such as closed circuit television.

Police inquiries are continuing.
